Challenge
As a customer-focused brand, Pepper had high standards for a new testing tool
As Pepper grew, the team wanted to keep making customer preferences the foundation of every decision. “A/B testing, and testing in general, is fundamental to what we do,” says Dani Erickson, Senior Product Manager at Pepper.
Pepper had originally relied on Google Optimize, but Dani knew it was possible to get more from their testing tool. Then Google sunsetted the platform, and it was time to make a change.
Dani started researching other tools, but finding one that suited Pepper’s needs wasn’t easy. They wanted to be able to run a variety of content and pricing experiments — both technical tests for developers and self-serve ones marketers could handle themselves. But Dani didn’t want to waste time or silo data by switching between multiple tools to get the features she needed.
Customer service was another priority. Since Pepper would be a heavy user of the new platform, Dani wanted to know they’d get the support they needed no matter what.
After looking into five different options, Dani and her team were frustrated. Because A/B testing was such an important part of Pepper’s operations, this wasn’t an area where they wanted to compromise.
“Most platforms offered point-and-click tests or advanced options — but not both in one affordable package. We also didn’t encounter a lot of tools that offered price testing.”
